Nourish Your Body
The habit of nourishing your body enables you to grow in virtue, which leads to true happiness. Scripture tells us that "no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it" (Ephesians 5:29-30) and that "whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).
The goal of this habit is to be intentional about nourishing your body with the right liquids, foods, and rest that it needs, starting with focusing on one of them and growing from there to focus on all three. The following are examples of ways to nourish your body every day:
-
Drink 8 tall glasses (approx. 64 ounces) of water. Adjust for body type, activity level, environment, and health.
-
Eat 3 healthy meals without snacking in between. Adjust as above.
-
Sleep for 7-9 hours. Optimize sleep with a pre-sleep routine of no food within 3 hours, no drinks within 2 hours, and no screen time within 1 hour of sleeping.
