Chaplet of The Holy Face of Jesus
NOTE: The purpose of the Chaplet of The Holy Face of Jesus is to honor the Five Senses of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and to ask of God the triumph of His holy Church as well as to thwart evil and the snares of the devil. This chaplet is composed of a cross and thirty-nine beads, six which are single beads and thirty-three of which are grouped beads; to this chaplet is attached a medal of the Holy Face. The thirty-three grouped beads represent the thirty-three years of the mortal life of Our Divine Lord. The first three beads recall to us the three years of His public life, and the remainder are divided into five parts of six beads each, in honor of the senses of Jesus: TOUCH, HEARING, SIGHT, SMELL, and TASTE; and they render reparative homage for all the sufferings which Our Lord has endured in His Face through each of these senses during His Passion. The Glory Be is said seven times throughout the Chaplet to honor the Seven Last Words of Jesus upon the Cross and to honor the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady of Sorrows. St. Athanasius said the devils hate “Arise, O Lord and let they enemies be scattered…” more than any other Scripture verse and that this always compelled them to take flight! The chaplet is concluded by saying on the Cross or Holy Face Medal: “God, our Protector, look down upon us and cast Thine eyes upon the Face of Thy Christ.” Then finish with the Sign of the Cross.
