Lectio Divina
NOTE: Latin for "Divine Reading", Lectio Divina is an ancient technique of slow, contemplative prayer with the Scriptures as a means of union with God and His Word. Prepare for Lectio Divina by quieting the mind and body without distractions before continuing with these steps:
-
Lectio (Reading) - Read a Scripture passage slowly, and listen carefully for a word or phrase that the Holy Spirit is bringing to your attention.
-
Meditatio (Meditation) - Read the passage again and reflect on that word or phrase, listening and meditating on what God is saying to you.
-
Oratio (Prayer) - Read the passage a third time, and respond by praying (maybe also journaling) with gratitude in conversation with God.
-
Contemplatio (Contemplation) - Read the passage one last time, then spend a few minutes being still in silence.
