Friendliness

 

Friendliness is a virtue of the cardinal virtue of Justice, and growing in the virtue of friendliness is about being friendly to others. Here are some examples of better habits you can exercise every day to grow in the virtue of friendliness:

 

Talk & Listen

  • Say hello to others with a smile, and listen to their response.

  • Ask others how they're doing and what they're feeling, and listen to empathize (offer help only if requested).

  • Call someone in ARMOR for a DVR.

  • Resist distractions (eg. phone, tv, etc.) as you communicate with others, and ask the same of them.

 

Act With Love

  • Do an act of service.

  • Give a meaningful gift.

  • Spend quality time.

  • Speak words of affirmation.

  • Offer physical touch appropriate to the person and situation.

 

Practice Works of Mercy

  • Corporal works of mercy relate to the body:

    • Feed the hungry.

    • Give drink to the thirsty.

    • Shelter the homeless.

    • Visit the sick.

    • Visit the prisoners.

    • Bury the dead.

    • Give alms to the poor.

  • Spiritual works of mercy relate to the soul:

    • Counsel the doubtful.

    • Instruct the ignorant.

    • Admonish the sinner.

    • Comfort the sorrowful.

    • Forgive injuries.

    • Bear wrongs patiently.

    • Pray for the living and the dead.
