Inspired by Ephesians 6:11, ARMOR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that enables people to grow in virtue to fulfill the universal call to holiness. Each of us has one or more habits that are hindering progress in fulfilling our call to holiness, and ARMOR enables helpful habits that replace hindering habits.
Each of us is engaged in spiritual warfare with the devil as our common enemy, as St. Paul suggests in Ephesians 6:12. He then reiterates his encouragement to "put on the armor of God" in order to withstand the struggle. In light of this, ARMOR operates from the perspective of being engaged in spiritual warfare, with each of us encouraging each other to fight the good fight side by side as warriors in the trenches of life's battles.
Pope Paul VI alluded to Ephesians 6:14-17 in the last section of his address to a General Audience in 1972 by recalling “how often the apostolic method of teaching used the armor of a soldier as a symbol for the virtues that can make a Christian invulnerable. The Christian must be a militant; he must be vigilant and strong; and he must at times make use of special ascetical practices to escape from certain diabolical attacks. Jesus teaches us this by pointing to ‘prayer and fasting’ as the remedy. And the Apostle [St. Paul] suggests the main line we should follow: ‘Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.’” (Romans 12:21, emphasis added)
We also read in the Manual for Spiritual Warfare that "the virtues provide our defensive armor", and it states further:
Therefore, ARMOR helps people to "overcome evil with good" by striving to grow in virtue to overcome vice. As we grow in virtue, we fulfill our call to holiness.
Fulfill the universal call to holiness.
Enable people to grow in virtue.
Be a leader in faith-based behavioral change.
While ARMOR uses Catholic prayers in a faith-based approach to behavioral change, a person of any faith or no faith is invited to join.
While other approaches to behavioral change focus on avoiding specific behaviors, ARMOR is a faith-based approach that encourages daily practice of healthy behaviors to replace unhealthy behaviors that weaken relationships with God, others, or self.
While ARMOR enables people to grow in virtue and holiness, one might also consider any of the following ways to facilitate beavioral change:
Work with a certified spiritual director for guidance on the spiritual journey.
Get professional counseling from a licensed therapist to address psychological pain and trauma.
Work with a life coach who can facilitate continuous improvement.
